THE HEART OF SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION

Spiritual transformation requires repentance and total trust in God to dramatically change what we could never change
ourselves.
The truth is, as church members, people we are too often caught up in the momentum of ministry that we've forsaken our own needed moments of intimacy with God.  There must be priority time set aside to nurture a personal relationship with Jesus.
There must be a hunger to be in touch with God every minute of every day just as Jesus was.

JUST LIKE JESUS
John 13:34 We can love one another as He loves us.
John 14:1 We can trust Him completely.
John 14:20 We are in Him, and He is in us.
John 14:12 We can do what He has done.

What Is Spiritual Transformation?  We will be studying, Spiritual transformation over the next four (4) months each Sunday
Morning doing Bible Study.

p27 What is Spiritual Transformation? Spiritual transformation is God work of changing a believer into the likeness of Jesus by creating a new identity in Christ and by empowering a lifelong relationship of love, trust, and obedience to glorify God.

  • Spiritual transformation begins with a new identity in Christ.
Salvation is a defining experience in which we literally become new persons.  We take on the identity of Jesus.

This is such a profound, definitive experience that it can be said God gives believers a new spiritual DNA, a new genetic origin, a new nature.  Believers are set apart for God's glory at the moment of new birth in Christ (John 3:5-6) and they
become part of the household of God-joint heirs with Christ (Eph. 2:19-20).  Jesus describes the genetic link of this new identity in John 14:20: "I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you".  God is our Source for transformation.  Spiritual growth, then, isn't about us; it's about what God wants to do in us because we are His children.  Our Identity as
children of God is the fertile ground God uses for spiritual transformation.  (See 1 Pet. 1:3b-4)

  • Spiritual transformation continues in a growing relationship of love, trust, and obedience.

The new identity believers have in Christ is indeed an all-surpassing Mircle.  But it does not mean that with this new identity believers are full mature in Christ.  While God loves the believer in an infant state of rebirth, He is not content to leave the believer in spiritual diapers.  There is much growth to be encouraged.  And that is where the Holy Spirit enters and begins to help develop the fullness of the new identity that the believer has received with repentance and salvation.

  • Spiritual Transformation Glorifies God
The goal of the new identity in Christ and a lifelong relationship of love, trust, and obedience is quite simple:  to glorify God.  Once again, as God intended, Jesus leads by example.  Spiritual transformation requires that the believer love in the self-sacrificial way that Jesus did.  As the father has loved me, so I have loved you.  Now remain in my love (John 15:9). "A new command I give you:  Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:34).

I Surrender All-but Not Easily

Obedience: Few of us like to roll that word off our tongue. After trusting and repentance, obedience represents the crucial link to a personal relationship with God. When you and other church member and leaders are obedient to God the Father-just as Jesus was-you, too, have an opportunity to be more like the Father, to show your true love for Him, and to see God draw others to Himself through you. Since spiritual transformation is accomplished from the inside out, the more you surrender to becoming like Jesus, the more you will behave like Jesus.

How Does God Transform a Believer into the Likeness of Jesus?

We’ve stated that true spiritual transformation must be empowered by God. When we finally yearn for a relationship with God, He begins to transform our hearts daily through the work of the Holy Spirit. God uses real-life resources as catalysts to make us more like His Son. Let’s look at some of those resources.

Marriage dating non-Christians, Why Is It Important to Be Equally Yoked in Dating or in Marriage?  So He/She doesn't Pull You Away from Christ! What does the Bible say about equally yoked. 2 Cor 6:14-15 Don't become partners with those who do not believe.  For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?   Vs15 What agreement does Christ have with Devil? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?  Vs16. And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols?  For we are the temple of the living God, as God said I will dwell and walk among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people (Read 17-18) CSB.  (See Dt.7:3-6) for they will lead your children away from me to worship other godsIf you love me, obey my commandments John 14:15.   If Christians marry nonbelievers, they will be a snare and trap for them Joshua 23:11-13.

  • God Uses His Living Word

God gives His children His Word so that they will know His heart and the wisdom He has to share. His Word is the firm foundation on which believers are to establish their unique relationship with Him the Word of God connects us with Jesus by demonstrating how Jesus lived and how He loved-and how God wants us to live. To the Jews who had

Believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and truth will set you free “(John 8:31-32).

  • God Uses Home and Family as Instruments of Growth.

Deut. 6:6-7

  • God Uses Believers to Help Others Grow to be Like Jesus
Every believer being transformed by the work of the Holy Spirit is to help other believers grow to be more like Jesus.
This is not an option for believers; it is a biblical mandate.  As iron sharpen iron, so one man sharpens another (Prov. 27:17). Eph 4:11-16

  • God Uses the Everyday Circumstances of Life.

The purpose of trials is to see if you believe what you say you believe.  You rejoice in this even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials.  I Pet. 1:6-7 Romans 8:28, Yes there are unavoidable circumstances-and we believers also pile grief on our own heads.  During times when we make bad choices, God uses loving discipline to prune and shape us.   Heb. 12:10-11

  • God uses Spiritual Exercises to Develop Growth.

The Transformed Believer Lives in Harmony with God's Word:  p32
For the believers, transformation is walking His Words, day in and Day out, not just talking them.  It's living God's Word out loud.
Transformed believers live the Word of God and thus love God and others the way Jesus loves them.  Fruit then is produced-not because of whois watching-but because of who is guiding the actions.  This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much
fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples (John 15:8).
Matt. 11:28-30  Jesus  says, "Come to me...learn from me and you will find rest for your souls".

The Transformed Believer Sees the World Through the Lens of Scripture:  p32
God calls believers to see the world as Jesus did-to love the lost as He does. God calls us to share His Love with other.
With the lens of Scripture focusing our lives, things take on a clear perspective.  Fear about spreading the gospel is replaced by a fervency to do so.  Casual Christianity is replaced by commitment. Making a mere appearance
in the world does not suffice making a difference in the world, just as Jesus did, becomes the primary goal.
Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me-put it into practice.
And the God of peace will be with you.   (Phil. 4:8-9)

FASTING AND PRAY

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41; see (verses 39-45) Jesus had been praying to the Father and had found the disciples sleeping instead of praying. Mt. 26:35 all had said I will not. Jesus said whatever we need and ask in His name He will do (John 14:13).  Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.

Fasting – What does the Bible Say?

The Bible does not command Christians to fast. God does not require or demand it of Christians. At the same time, the Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable, and beneficial. The book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions (Act 13:2; 14:23). Fasting and prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37; 5:33). Too often, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. Instead, the purpose of fasting should be to take your eyes off the things of this world to focus completely on God. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God, and to ourselves, that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Fasting helps us gain a new perspective and renewed reliance upon God. Given up temporarily in order to focus all our attention on God can be considered a fast ( 1 Corinthians 7:1-5). Fasting should be limited to a set time, especially when fasting from food. Extended periods of time without eating can be harmful to the body. Fasting is not intended to punish the flesh, but to redirect attention to God. Fasting should not be considered a “dieting method”. The purpose of a biblical fast is not to lose weight, but rather to gain deeper fellowship with God. By taking our eyes off the things of this world, we can more successfully turn our attention to Christ. Read Matthew 6:16-18 fasting is not for show.

The Transformed Believer Has a Relationship with Other Believers   p33
The Holy Spirit draws people of all different personalities, perspectives, and gifts together into a distinct and dedicated relationship with God, united as one spiritual family (the church) for His possession, use, and glory.  These many believers are given different gifts by God so that the work of ministry may be accomplished efficiently.  All believers have one calling-to glorify Him.  Rom. 15:5-7.  The visibly transformed heart hears this ultimate calling to glorify God and reaches out  to join hands with other believers, regardless of the differences they may have.

The Transformed Believer Makes God's Love Known to Others

Matt. 28:19-20
Rom. 12:1-2

A transformed believer's love for God is reflected in loving people so much that the believer is compelled to make God's love know.

Rom. 16:20

A tiny fawn was spotted standing alone.  Unfortunately, three dogs also spotted the solitary creature and began vigorous pursuit.  The dogs closed the distance.  Suddenly, a person-intent on helping the fawn-ran screaming and yelling like a warrior after the dogs.  They recogenized a stronger opponent and quickly ran away.  The story of the fawn parallels the believer's battle with Satan-and it emphasizes why the church jmust be so intentional in discipleship ministry.

Believers have the same power to defeat Satan because of our new identity in Christ.  Even though we live in a battle zone as we journey toward spiritual transformation, the victory is ours because of whose we are (the children of God) and who we are in Christ (joint heirs with Christ), complete with His spiritual DNA.  What is required of us is:
1.  A constant, intentional desire to become like Jesus.

2.  A constant awareness of the schemes of Satan.

3.  A consistent faith that God will provide us with the strength to overpower Satan if we call upon Him.

Satan loves it when believers drift away, clueless as to what's happening.  The Bible says to pay creful attention against drifting because it can happen subtly.  It happens most offten when a believer gets lazy with his or her prayer life and Bible study-or too busy with daily life.

Esther

God determines our when and four Where.

No matter what time or place we as believers find ourselves in, we should always remember two truths:

  1. First God determines our when and our ware. Paul says, “From one man God has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and boundaries of where they live. Acts 17:26 (For Such a time as this) (Spring, Summer, Fall for such a time as this), and Winter. There was no accident, randomness behind the conception of those who were born during Israel’s exile nor to those who were born this week.
  2. Second truth we need to remember is this:

No matter where we are on this globe, it is not ultimately our home. Phil 3:20 Paul reminds Christians that “our citizenship is in heaven”. A new heaven and earth are coming with a New Jerusalem that has been prepared ‘like a bride adorned for her husband” (Rev. 21L2).

About the writer: Paul

Paul is the Author of this book (1:1; 16:21). He claimed to be an apostle (1:1; 4:9) and to have seen the resurrected Christ (9:1; 15:8). Paul looked upon Timothy in a spiritual father-son relationship (4:12; I Tim. 1:2). Paul used himself and Apollos, both prominent in the functions of ministers (1:12; 3:4-5; 4:6 of. Acts 18:24-28).

Corinth was the crossroads for travel and commerce, both north and south for the Greek

It is not good for one man, family or one woman to do it all.  God did not plan that in your home neither did he plan it in the Church.  That one man , Family should do it all, or one woman do it all.  We all have our place.  God created man but He created woman to be company a help mate (not slave but companion, Close to , live with, connected with).  IT’S NOT GOOD ON JUST ONE, MOSES FATHER IN LAW SAID YOU WILL WEAR AWAY.      Exodus 18:17

THE ATTACKS OF THE DEVIL

Though the Devil may attack at any time, he will always do it when he thinks it is to his advantage. We see this method, time and time again in the Scriptures.  Use God's Word in these Bible verses about temptation to learn how to resist and overcome the tempting situations in your life. I don’t know your story. I don’t know what temptations you are trying to fight right now. For most believers it is a daily fight against their desire – the thing that trying to lure ever believer away from God and tell you and me that I could and should get what I wanted when I wanted it, after all I can just repent to God. Small temptations turned into huge, character-altering a temptation that destroys both body and soul, but that’s not the end of the story. Because we have a God who fought for you and me and made us an over comer as we fight back against one temptation as a time. Just remember whatever you are facing, you are an over comer become Jesus paid it in full on Calvary.

  1. After A Great Spiritual Experience:

We find that Jesus was attacked by Satan right after His baptism. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the Devil. Mat. 3:16:-17, Mat 4:1 This should teach us a lesson. After a great spiritual experience we should be ready for spiritual attacks from the enemy.

  1. When Believers Are Physically Vulnerable:

We also find Satan coming when believers are in a weak position – either physically or emotionally. Jesus was attacked after He had fasted for forty days.

  1. When a Believer Is Alone:

We also find Satan attacking when people are alone. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil (Mat 4:1)

  1. From An Unexpected Source:

Oftentimes Satan will attack us from an unexpected source – someone from whom we do not think. After Jesus, had told His disciples that He was going to Jerusalem to die and then be raised the third day. He was rebuked from an unexpected source. Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you. “But He turned and said to Peter, “Got behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me, for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things” Mat 16:22-23

  1. Remember We Have The Victory:

Though Satan does attack, and sometimes entices believers to fall into sin, ultimately we are victorious through Christ. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and save me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. 2 Tim 4:18

We Must Overcome Sin

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Galatians 5:16

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

James 4:17

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. Lk. 12:47

I John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8 if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Psalm 119:11

I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Galatians 6:7-8

Do not deceived: God is not macked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Romans 6:23

We know, for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  1. must flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.                                           The Gospel Invitation

The Necessity of Public Gospel Invitations:
Although a growing number of members and preachers have abandoned the use of public invitations in their concern, the need to call men, women, boys and girls publicly to profess their faith in Jesus Christ has never been more urgent. Why the necessary of public invitations here are four reason:  1.  The New Testament gospel invitations is an order to make disciples publicly an issuing, 2.  Unbelievers lack the knowledge on how to respond to the gospel when they are convicted of their sins by the Spirit, 3.  The implicit (ability to understand) nature of preaching and relationship to the gospel invitations and 4.  It is a historical record how God has used the preacher and laymen to give the gospel and invitations that God used to bring people to faith in Christ.

Making Disciples Instantaneously

The New Testament and the Gospels describe Jesus’s ministry primarily as one of instantaneous disciple-making.  When was the last time you ever led a man, woman, boy or a girl to Christ. Prov. 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winner's souls is wise.  Jesus’s public calling of disciples occurred when He appealed that (1) the crowds should repent and believe the gospel (Matt 4:17, Mark 1:14-15) and 2. Select Galilean fishermen should follow Him and become fishers of people (Matt 4L19: Mark 1:17, Luke 5:10).  Each one of these occasions indicate that Jesus’s hearers responded publicly and immediately to His call.  we must begin the work of calling men to the Gospel on our Jobs, in our homes, our School, and everywhere we go.  It is time we take a bold stand for the call.

  • Burden on your Heart? Something that is carried; load, In the book of Galatians 6:2 “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” The law of Christ is the law of love. Jesus told His disciples in John 19:34, “Anew commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another, Vs35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. The Law of Love is one of the primary distinguishing marks of the church. As fellow believers, we naturally love one another. We learn also in scripture, that if we don’t love one another, we’re none of His.
  • Because we naturally love one another, we naturally bear one another’s burdens. We rejoice with those who rejoice, and we weep with those who weep. (Rom 12:15) We bear one another’s burdens.

PERSONAL EVANGELISM USING YOUR GIFT

As we begin to engage in Evangelism, we must recognize the spiritual gifts that we have received from God.  Paul list seven ministries:  (1) prophecy, which is defined in 1Cor. 14:3 (2) ministry, which is literally "deaconing" (serving) and may refer to that office; (3) teaching, according to 2 Tim. 2:1-2, an important responsibility; (4) exhorting, which means encouraging people to serve the Lord and be faithful to Him; (5) giving, which should be done in singleness of heart out of pure motives (see Acts 5); (6) ruling, pertaining to the government of the local church (1 Tim. 3:4 and 12) ; (7) showing mercy, sharing with those in need.

p27 What is Spiritual Transformation?

THE BOOK OF PHILIPPIANS

Philippians Ch 4:6-9
Vs6 don’t worry (be anxious) about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

The Book of Philippians:
Philippians is the book of joy. Paul wants God’s saints to live in the joy of the Lord and his kingdom instead of just reacting to their circumstances.

In this Chapter, Paul tells us that the secure mind that is guarded by, the peace of God-frees us from worry.   Worry comes from an Anglo-Saxon word that means “to strangle, strangle”

  • We strangle, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The mind thinks about problems, and these feelings weigh down the heart, creating a vicious circle that wrecks our emotional state.

  1. What cause worry?    Wrong thinking and attitudes toward people, circumstances, or things.  Notice in Chapter 4 that Paul has no worry about people, circumstances, or the material things of life.  Paul has the single mind.

The believer who does not have the single mind

· Ch 1-Submissive mind.  (I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you).

· Ch 2-The spiritual mind. . 2:2 Fulfill my joy be being likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

· Will be Thankfulness and Prayer

First, what does a minister of the gospel look like? Do the garments define them? Does a collar around the neck distinguish them?  I am a set apart Pastor, but one truth I must say here is we however are all in the school of  "believers of Christ"

When people look at us there should be something about us that sets us apart from the rest of the world.  We should be mirror reflecting God's light of truth to the world.  When people look at us, they should see Jesus.  We cannot become holy on our own, we cannot become set apart and special by our own strength, but God gives us this Holy Spirit to help us obey and to give us the power to overcome sin.

Mat. 26:40-41

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleep and saith unto Peter, what, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the Spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Self Care:  Gal 5:22

  1.  WHY IS THE FLESH WEAK?    WHY IS OUR BOBY WEAK, POOR CONDUCTION?
  1. What is Spiritual Transformation? Spiritual transformation is God work of changing a believer into the likeness of Jesus by creating a new identity in Christ and by empowering a lifelong relationship of love, trust, and obedience to glorify God.
  2. I Surrender All-but Not Easily
  3. Obedience: Few of us like to roll that word off our tongue. After trusting and repentance, obedience represents the crucial link to a personal relationship with God. When you and other church member, leaders and friends are obedient to God the Father-just as Jesus was-you, too, have an opportunity to be more like the Father, to show your true love for Him, and to see God draw others to Himself through you. Since spiritual transformation is accomplished from the inside out, the more you surrender to becoming like Jesus, the more you will behave like Jesus.
